Cosmic Chronicles Chapter 2 Review

First off, sorry about the wait for the review. And second off, sorry about the wait for this chapter. It’s been over a year since Chapter 1 of the Cosmic Chronicles was released, and in a perfect world, I would have preferred to have a gap in between episodes of no more than six months, or at least less than a year. The problem is that I need to evenly space these episodes across the release schedule of Cosmic Quest, so they remain in-line with each other on their respective plots, and so that one doesn’t finish way before the other. Because of this, I have a strict release schedule to follow, and the insane amount of time I was taking to publish episodes over the summer and fall lead to a larger than desired time between the two chapters. And in all honesty, it will probably take about as long for episode 3 to appear.

One of the major goals of this chapter was to establish a more solid character for Brandon. In chapter 1 he was simply some cool trainer with powerful Pokemon. I realized after writing it that this would not do, I needed to up his character. So this chapter gave some insights to what drives and hinders Brandon. The addition of Braydon and Galileo both also allowed for Brandon to have some character moments. As I have discussed in other posts, Braydon was brought into this episode as a way to connect it to the greater Cosmic Quest story, just as Chapter 1 served as a prequel to the first Cosmic Quest movie, this chapter, in a sense, served as a prequel for  the Astro Camp arc. Of course, that’s nowhere near as important as setting up for a movie, but I’m not quite ready to begin work on the movie yet, so I had to settle for less in this case.

Myoken the Guiding Light Review

I was inspired to write movies for Cosmic Quest very early on in planning for it. I decided that if I wanted the series to feel as much like the actual series as possible, the addition of periodic movies would help a whole lot. Actually, I made Myoken for this movie. Way back all those years ago when I first created the Tenno Region I created two event-exclusive Legendary Pokémon, but not Myoken. When rebooting the region for Cosmic Quest, I realized that not only was I an event Legendary short from the standard amount of three, but I had yet to create a Pokémon to fit the “Mew Niche.” So Myoken was created, and the story of this movie based off of it.

For those of you who have read the Cosmic Chronicles, you know that I used it as an opportunity to set up for the movie, a prequel of sorts. That was not my original intention at all when planning for the Cosmic Chronicles, but I quickly realized that it was a golden opportunity since the movie would be coming out so soon. So I worked in the characters Aries and Pleiades, replacing a generic Team Interplanetary scientist and tacked on the extra scene at the end with Myoken. As I slightly tied Cosmic Chronicles into the main series, I have also tied the movie into the main series, something that I feel the real show could handle better than they do. Future chapters of Cosmic Chronicles won’t necessarily be tied into movies, this one one just happened to work out.

One interesting fact about the movie that may not be apparent to a reader of the movie is the relationship between Myoken and Dracosmic. It is actually a two-fold reference. Dracosmic is based on the real-world constellation Draco, which wraps around the North Star. The other reference is to Myoken’s mythic origins. The Japanese goddess Myoken was often depicted as riding on the head of a dragon. Hence Dracosmic serves a reference both to the real North Star and the myth of Myoken.

I hope you all enjoyed the first Cosmic Quest movie and are looking forward to the next.

Cosmic Chronicles Review/Cosmic Quest: The Movie

In case you haven’t read the Cosmic Chronicles yet (which you should if you haven’t), here’s something you missed:

That’s right, the Cosmic Quest Movie is going to feature a brand new, never before seen Pokémon. Who’s that Pokémon!? You’ll just have wait to find out more. Stay tuned.

On to business. You might have realized that the Cosmic Chronicles is similar to the currently running Mega Evolution Specials. If you thought that, you would be right. An interesting note though, it wasn’t actually the Mega Evolution Special that inspired me to write this. My inspiration came from watching Pokémon Chronicles, specifically the Legend of Thunder. It was a three-part episode that featured Jimmy (based off of the protagonist of Gold and Silver) in a fight to save Raiku. I thought it was a great idea to have a series of special episodes featuring the playable character. I had already known that I wanted to do some sort of exclusive special episode for this website, and decided that that idea would be perfect. I decided it would be better though to model it after the Mega Evolution Special, as I find those episodes to be highly intriguing. The half of the inspiration for the series actually comes from the Delta Episode in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I realized that the Delta Episode (also combined with the “Looker Episode” in X and Y) was the start of a new era in Pokémon. Post-game episodes would probably become a permanent feature in future games. I decided to adapt and created a post-game episode for Luna and Terra. When trying to come up with a plot for the Cosmic Chronicles, I realized that this post-game episode would be perfect, so I merged the two ideas and the Cosmic Chronicles was formed. Of course, I had to take some liberties in the story, as Brandon was supposed to be in the place of Ash throughout the normal story, and this story wasn’t supposed to take place until after Team Planetary was defeated, but I made it work. I expect to write 3-4 more episodes depending on how everything goes for the Cosmic Chronicles. They will be spread out across the remaining run of Cosmic Quest. I hope you’re looking forward to them.

If you haven’t seen them yet, sprites of the Team Interplanetary Grunts and Commander Messier have been added to the Team Planetary page.

Also, my apologies again. I have been really busy the past several days with starting college and unable to write. Hopefully a new episode will be coming soon.
